Marshalling Thoughts On Art, Part I
Jan. 9th, 2006 04:42 pmI apologize for my utter failure to remember the names of either artists or their pieces.
Of the many things ping ponging about the brain is this:
There was a minimalist painting that was black outer border and a light blue inner border around a blank, seemingly unpainted field. Next to it was a surrealist painting full of melted and liquid forms, some with perspective lines still in place, presumably from their previous form.
For reasons that escape me, the minimalist offering irked me something fierce. I can only hope the feeling the artist wanted to invoke was not my desire to hand the painting to someone else saying, "Here. Do something."
The surrealist painting I liked. Couldn't specifically say why other than, to me, it made the minimalist one feel like a waste of canvas when hung right next to it. I suspect that compare and contrast was the intent.
Thoughts?
