ASTHMA II - The Livermore Lung Boogaloo
May. 21st, 2006 09:34 pmIt's official. The doctor said so. He gave me multiple prescriptions for anti-Livermore medications and everything.
Seriously though, I have been complaining about the plants around here trying to have sex with my nose for the last several weeks. Livermore has been misery since shortly after the rain stopped. Mackenzie noted that I had been wheezing in my sleep. I have been living as a claritin achiever but that is not sufficient gear when the pollen is into the rough stuff.
To extend the BDSM metaphor, I would really like to know the safe word to get the plants to stop it. I yelled "AGENT ORANGE" at a few trees but my car was still dusted in yellow at the end of the day.
On Thursday evening, I started getting racked with coughing fits. I was wheezing and having a hard time breathing. Had to dose myself with NyQuil to get to sleep. Friday and Saturday were interesting in that my symptoms got better the farther I was from Livermore.
Today, Mackenzie ordered me to go to the doctor, so I did. The respiratory specialist on duty, because Valley Medical sees enough people with allergy issues that they always have one there, said that it was good that I came in. Apparently, I have been having a mild asthma attack for the last couple weeks, that had elevated to moderate in the previous 72 hours. Continuing like that would have been bad.
Once upon a time, almost two decades ago, my doctor was willing to entertain the idea that I was asthmatic rather than an out of shape lump, so he gave me an inhaler. I seem to remember that I did much better in the track stuff after that. Eventually, I stopped using it but then I wasn't having any problems either.
Now I gots all kinds of steroid goodness and inhalers. I'm thirty and it's high time that I had a condition and some meds for it. I was worried for a moment that I was falling behind the curve. Now I can wander around without pants on and punch babies because I Have A Condition.
