Urine helped Canadian soldiers stay alive during gas attacks in WWII. Also, in Europe and North America at Christmas time it used to be popular to consume amanita muscara (that's also where red and white entered the archetypal Christmas season). The poor would wait outside to collect the urine of those who'd imbibed, which they would then drink.
