Hooray?

July 13-17 I am going to be in Pittsburg, PA for the Health Physics Society annual meeting.  I may be there for just one day in order to take Part I of the Certified Health Physicist exam (which is the radiation protection version of the bar exam) or the whole time.  It remains to be seen for that is far in the future.  I still have to pass my master's boards in March first.

Pittsburg in July does not seem like a happy prospect.  I am not entirely happy that my first adventure east of the Mississippi and north of the Mason-Dixon will be in the summer, much less that the destination is Pittsburg.  I mean, if I would actually have the time to go urban exploring properly in derelict steel mills...sure...I could probably manage to deal with the humidity for that.

Say what you will about Portland being a very unseasonable 105F when you're wearing a black wool suit, at least its not humid.

I came across an excellent deal for limoncello, a liquor that featured prominently in my Italian adventures, and doled out a couple bottles at Christmas in addition to keeping some for myself.  I highly recommend the decadence of eating biscotti by dipping them bite by bite in limoncello.  You'll be desiring a traditional Roman meal by aromatic Christian torchlight in no time.

Anyway, after I gave a bottle to my dad and he took a sip a look of pondering crossed his face.  He was wondering what kind of a mixed drink would work well with limoncello.  With a shrug, he suggested pina colada mix.

Tonight I tried it out and it is goddamn delicious.  This is not a drink for [profile] blark.  While not quite as offensive to his system as a pineapple express or a festive eggnog 'n' brandy (or the unholy combination of the two TOGETHER), this would do a number on him.  If you are coconut, citrus, or lactose intolerant, run...do not walk...from this drink.

Using a tumbler, add three ice cubes and 1 part limoncello to 2 parts pina colada mix.  Stir vigorously and enjoy.  Add a slice of lemon and a Cinzano umbrella if you like.  Fair warning, it is a titch sweet.
