I must credit my professor with including a very special email to the distance students asking for evaluations of our fellow group project members AFTER everything has been turned in and the final was done.  I felt a certain glee at the prospect of sharing my opinions of my fellows so much that I had to read it to [profile] auto_de_fe before sending it off to make sure it was candid but not cruel.  Harsh it was, but she found no fault, so off it went.  I give it to you for your enjoyment.

Radioecology – Self and Group Assessment

For 15 points answer the following:

  1. Your group number/site was:

Group 1 – Richland, WA

  1. Your designated role was:

STELLA Modeling and Paper

  1. Your assessment of your own performance was A,B,C,D, E – assign a grade and explain:

I would give myself a B. The STELLA model I designed provided a more sophisticated view of radiocesium transport but it was not ready by the deadline set by my team leader. This was due to a lack of information provided by designated team members for model building, meaning I had to do it instead, and late completion of the RESRAD model, but that does not change the fact I missed a deadline. For consistency with the presentation given in class, the group chose to use the simplified model made by David despite its deficiencies.

As far as writing, I wrote the sections relating to the STELLA model and derived the equations for dose calculation. I think they are informative and complete.

  1. Your general assessment of your team members performance was A,B,C,D, E – assign grades and (briefly!) explain:

Ian *****(Paper and RESRAD) – Grade F
Ian did not communicate at all by email or on the message board. As far as I can tell, he contributed nothing to this project other than his name.

Tristan ***** (Group Leader, Editor, Richland Info, etc.) – Grade D
As group leader, the failure to engage us and set time tables well in advance lies with him. He asked for and accepted the role of leader but I had to repeatedly prompt him to action. I expected a great deal more communication out of him than I received until it was too late. Additionally, since he accepted the role of providing information for use in model building, his failure to provide necessary information in a timely manner forced me to assume that role to try to meet his belatedly set timetable. He seems to have drifted into the role assembling the paper from Gerry & my inputs and abdicated the editing to Gerry.

Gerry ***** (RESRAD and Richland info) – Grade B
Gerry provided editorial support for the paper & presentation and built a fine RESRAD model. I’d give him an A if it weren’t for the fact everything else hinged on the timely completion of the RESRAD model. Because it was late, everything else was.

David ***** (Presentation and STELLA Modeling) – Grade B
David contributed with an auxiliary STELLA model for use in the presentation when inputs were not available to run mine in a timely manner. While it wasn’t sophisticated, it got the job done.  I was not impressed with the presentation and I can sum it up simply with the fact that it didn’t have a title page with our names on it.

Considering how you complained about them, this is surprisingly restrained. But I suppose one does not rant to teachers the way one rants to friends.

Yes, I was expecting something a bit more scathing...but way to stick it to them and not give yourself an A even though it seems like you were the only one putting in the effort.

And thus increases the lack of faith in other people to get shit done.

Well done, since I've done my share of group project reviews it's always tough to put down cold reasoned ideas as to why you were up at 3 am screaming at an email from an idiot classmate.

Unfortunately "He's a fucknut!" doesn't carry as much weight as far as the professor is concerned.
